AI is a force that is driving rapid, life-changing, and never-ending change. This can be unsettling for employees, who may feel uncertain about their future and how they fit into the new landscape. They’re looking for stability—for consistency, integrity, fairness, and leadership they can trust. They want to be part of a team with a clear, common vision.

I lived in Green Bay and saw transformational change when the Packers went from a mediocre football team to a Super Bowl champion in just five years.  Their success was a master class in change management and relevant for business leaders today.

10 Packer Lessons That Will Help You Navigate the AI Environment

  • Develop a clear vision and sell it every day at every level.
  • Know your “locker room”.  Brett Favre and Reggie White were the Packers driving force. Identify the individuals who can help you motivate and influence your team.
  • Job descriptions are no longer enough.  In this rapidly changing AI world, you need more information. What are the manager’s written strategic thoughts about the open position now and 2 – 4 years from now.  How will AI change this position?
  • Use the various reports from objective, scientifically based assessments for all data-driven talent decisions (i.e. manager – employee fit, leadership, promotions, succession planning, sales, etc.).
  • Your recruiters are your talent scouts. Make sure they fully buy-in to your vision.
  • Assessments are your scouting tools – make sure you have a good one.
  • With change comes tough decisions.
  • Develop an organizational talent strategy that includes priorities and timetables.
  • Stop rogue managers who are short circuiting the talent selection and development process (i.e. “I’m a good judge of character” or “I just hired this person” types).
  • Consider the “locker room” when making talent decisions.  Will the candidate enhance or detract from the current company culture?

The lessons from the Packers are invaluable in this new AI world.  Today’s status quo may be obsolete tomorrow. With change comes opportunity.  Your ability to adapt and change will determine your future success.  I hope these Packer ideas will help you with change management—even if you’re not a “Packer Backer” fan.  If we can help you, please give us a call.
